As the Hemp and Cannabis industry continue to grow, it is increasingly important to understand the difference between the two. The difference between hemp and cannabis can seem confusing, but in reality, it's simple! It all has to do with the amount of THC in the plant.
HEMP VS. CANNABIS
Hemp and Cannabis are the same plant and come from the Cannabeace family. Hemp is the male manifestation of the plant, and cannabis is female. The distinguishing factor between the two is in the amount of THC, the psychoactive compound responsible for the "high" effect, that they contain. By dry weight, hemp contains less than 0.3% of THC, and typically has higher amounts of CBD. On the other hand, cannabis contains more than 0.3% by dry weight and typically has high amounts of THC.
